Because I've not mentioned it yet, I would like to say that I do appreciate all the comments that are being left. Thanks! As a hobbyist it means a lot when others are enjoying my story. Oh BTW I can't afford an editor so lots of spelling mistakes D:

Thanks Seabiscuit! I'm still muddling through the steep part of the learning curve.

Mmm. When I was 10 I was reading Solomon Kane. It didn't mess me up too much (I think).
jolle edit delete reply
jolle
Durp, panels 4-6 have pretty simple backgrounds. No matter though, I like it
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
Thank you Jolle! It was my attempt at transitioning from Robin's art to Piper's imagination.

Children's books these days are very forward about death. My son had one about Hiroshima after the "A" bomb. True story =)
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
Well even the Grimms' fairy tales are pretty grim.
Outlaw edit delete reply
Outlaw
Great page... Looks like Piper is reading a bit passed her grade level haha
Skweeee edit delete reply

Thanks Outlaw. She might just might be.

Lesson: Be careful with your harpoon!
Oooo, Hockey Night In Canada! I like the sound of that!
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
Well Piper does play hockey, and she is a fan.

Thanks IllustratorMan. You're helping me build my confidence with colouring.

Skyangel
I have no idea how to pronounce that name but it's a lovely side story and I'm curious to see where it leads. XD
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
I'm glad you're looking forward to this part of the story, Skyangel. The best I can do at phonetically spelling his name is
k'eye-yuck-tuck.

I just have to say that first panel is amazing, being detailed and simple at the same time. Darn, that's a great use of blue space. (I always like silhouette drawings!)
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
Thanks 3Hours2Soon! I like silhouettes as well. They can be so dramatic and imply so many things.

Thankyou QuietClayton! I can't afford photoshop so I try my best with corel paintshop pro. Someday I do hope to get PS though.
Toxic Keg edit delete reply

Those harpoon thingys can be pretty dangerous.
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
That's right Toxic Keg. When you're on your own, one cannot afford to be clumsy.

Matt Knab edit delete reply
Matt Knab
Poor Kay. :(
Great art as usual!
Heads up - panel 8 has a typo. I believe "ack" should be "back".
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
Thanks Matt! Ugghhh! My spelling is atrocious. I think I'm averaging at least one or two errors per page D:
I intend to go back one of these days and clean that all up. Also, I should probably wait a day or two before posting a page. I tend to get excited about posting it when I do the lettering. Ha ha , as soon as I have that last punctuation done on the page I'm uploading it, without proof-reading it.

I really like the simpler lines as we enter Piper's imagination...cool transition. I also learned a lesson with this tale...don't run with harpoon's...you can poke out...everything! :-)
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
Ah! I'm so glad you noticed the transition!! Yeah, and running with a harpoon; I don't recommend it.

Skweeee edit delete reply

Sleeper edit delete reply
Sleeper
I'm curious if this is based on actual mythology.
Skweeee edit delete reply
Skweeee
I have been doing research into Inuit folk tails etc. This little story is all mine, but I tried to make this as respectful and observant as I could to aboriginal tradition.
I have quite a few first nations friends, so it's been important to me to include these references that make them unique to North America and Canada in particular. I tried to stray as far as I could from cliche's, and based them more on my personal interactions with my First Nations friends.

It has a very authentic feel. like I wouldn't at all be surprised if you had said it was.
